Henryk Francuz died last week in Tel Aviv. He was born in 1925 in Łódź, Poland, survived the concentration camps Auschwitz and Fürstengrube, as well as the death march to Schleswig-Holstein via the Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp. He is one of the few survivors of the bombing attack on the ships in the Bay of Lübeck on May 3, 1945, which resulted in the death of 6600 prisoners of the Neuengamme concentration camp. Read more

Two weeks ago, on May 15, 2017, colleges from the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial and the Friends of the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial celebrated the 90th birthday of Karla Raveh together with her and 140 guests in her hometown Lemgo of which Karla was honorary citizen. Last Saturday (May 27) Karla Raveh passed away unexpectedly. She will be laid to rest in Israel. We grieve together with Karla’s family and friends. Read more

On the occassion of the 72nd anniversary of the end of World War II and the liberation of the camps, the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial organized an international commemorative service on May 3 that was attended by 9 survivors from different countries. On the occasion of the annual meeting of the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial Advisory Board, the representatives of the umbrella organization of the national associations of former prisoners of the Neuengamme concentration camp, Amicale Internationale KZ Neuengamme (AIN), came together to discuss the cooperation between the associations and the memorial at their annual congress which took place on November 11-13 in Hamburg. Janusz Kahl, a former prisoner of the Neuengamme concentration camp from Poland and the vice president of the Amicale Internationale KZ Neuengamme died today at the age of 89. We are mourning the death of a warmhearted and wise friend. Read more
