Educational programmes for vocational schools and professionals vary, depending on how long and how in-depth you want your learning experience at the Memorial to be. We recommend a 6–7 hour study day or a 2–3 day seminar.
Professionals and vocational school classes get an overview of the history of Neuengamme concentration camp in the form of an introduction and a guided tour of the main exhibition, important places in the former prisoners’ compound, sites of former work details and the House of Remembrance. After the tour, the class goes to the Centre for Historical Studies or the Open Archive, where they break up into small groups to research specific questions concerning the main theme as well as aspects of the historic site that are related to their occupation. In the 2–3 day seminars, participants can also explore how the actions of institutions during the Nazi period have been dealt with after 1945.
