Help wanted:

In preparation for our upcoming exhibition titled “Around the Alster: Hamburg’s History during the era of National Socialism” on the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of National Socialism in the Hamburg City Hall in January 2018, we are looking for any information regarding the whereabouts of the Budge family tapestry.

We will have several panels addressing the fate of the Budge family, with a special focus placed on the disputes surrounding the selling of their tapestry among the auctioning of their other family-owned art. First sold following Emma Budge´s death in 1937, the tapestry was bought by the Four Seasons Hotel on Alster Lake. Following later negotiations over the piece, the tapestry was returned to its heirs only to be auctioned once again in Sotheby´s in 2011. It has since disappeared.

Please do not hesitate to contact us at lisa.herbst@bkm.hamburg.de or over the telephone at 040-42813154 if you have any knowledge of its current location or any questions regarding our upcoming exhibition.
