We have received the sad news that Rabbi Laszlo Berkowits passed away on 13 December 2020 at the age of 92. Read more

In the night of 25-26 February 2021, our friend Roman Kamieniecki passed away due to Covid-19. He was most recently the president of the Association of Former Political Prisoners of Neuengamme concentration camp in Poland. Read more

An exhibition features photographs by Dutch photography duo Chris en Marjan online and is scheduled to run from March 12 to April 25, 2021 in the foyer of the main exhibition of the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial. Read more

February is Black History Month: During this month, initiatives and institutions dedicate themselves to aspects of Black history, using both analogue and digital formats. For several years, this has also been happening more and more on social media platforms. In February 2021, we will be telling biographies of Black prisoners of Neuengamme concentration camp on our social media platforms. Read more

The liberation of the Auschwitz death camp 76 years ago on January 27, 1945 did not mean the end of persecution, exploitation, oppression and murder of tens of thousands of people who continued to be imprisoned in concentration camps like Neuengamme. Especially in the last months of the war, thousands of prisoners died. We commemorated the suffering of the prisoners in an online event on Memorial Day for the Victims of National Socialism, coinciding with other memorials at sites of Nazi crimes. Read more

How do former places of violence become places of historical-political education? What challenges and problems, but also opportunities and innovations does the transformation of former sites of violence into memorials offer? Are there different challenges in different countries? We are currently discussing these and other questions in a tri-national seminar cycle with multipliers from Albania, France and Germany. Read more
