Our new volunteers at the memorial introduce themselves!

Since September, three volunteers have been supporting us at the foundation: Gabriel, Ulyana (both Action Reconciliation Service for Peace) and Philipp (Voluntary Social Year for Culture, FSJ). They will spend a year exploring the different departments and areas of the foundation and the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial and realising their own projects. Read more

Review of the events to mark the 79th anniversary of the liberation of the prisoners of Neuengamme concentration camp

We are delighted that so many people took part in this year's commemorative events, which were held to mark the 79th anniversary of the end of the war and the liberation of the concentration camps. We were particularly pleased that four survivors of the concentration camp, Dita Kraus, Livia Fränkel, Barbara Piotrowska and Helga Melmed, were in Hamburg with their relatives. Read more

A suitcase full of exciting papers

In the summer of 2022, the Hansen family took a special suitcase with them on their journey from Denmark to Hamburg. It contained historical documents and drawings by three Danish artists, Thorvald C. Hansen, Preben Holm Hansen, and Ib Holm Hansen. This special collection can now be found in the archive of the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial. Read more
