Saturday, 20 February 2021, 95-year-old German citizen Karl Friedrich Berger was deported from the USA and flown to Frankfurt by ambulance jet. In February 2020, an administrative court of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security ordered the deportation. Berger, who had lived in Tennessee since 1959, had filed an appeal, which was rejected. Marius Woltjer was 28 when he died in the Neuengamme concentration camp in February 1945. Less than nine months earlier he was arrested as a resistance fighter in the Netherlands. Following his imprisonment in Vught and Sachsenhausen concentration camps, he arrived in Neuengamme in October 1944 and was probably transferred on to the Husum-Schwesing satellite camp. Read more

Excavators and other construction equipment were set up months ago to start the construction of the hotel and office building in Lohsepark, HafenCity. As of 2023 the building will host the Hannoverscher Bahnhof Documentation Center on the ground floor. On February 17, 2020 a groundbreaking ceremony was held to mark the start of the construction. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the end of the war and the liberation of concentration camps, memorial sites, which serve as reminders of the Nazi injustice, would like to raise the awareness of the topic in the social media in 2020. The Amicale Internationale KZ Neuengamme (AIN) elected a new board of directors on November 16, 2019. The AIN is an umbrella organization which represents national associations of former prisoners of the Neuengamme concentration camp as well as their relatives and friends. The new president is Martine Letterie from the Netherlands. Read more

The exhibition "Survived! Now what? Hamburg victims of Nazi persecution after their Liberation" by the Hamburg Memorial Foundation and Learning Centres Commemorating the Victims of Nazi Crimes, supported by the Hamburg Parliament, will be shown from 16 January to 9 February 2020 at Hamburg city hall to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
