Exhibition "Children in the Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp"

The exhibition “Children in the Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp” will be on display at the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial from 3 April to 26 June 2022.

Children and young people from almost all European countries were among those imprisoned in National Socialist concentration camps. Many died of hunger, disease, epidemics and violence. The survivors were affected for life by the physical and mental torment.

The exhibition "Children in the Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp" documents the history of these youngest victims, with the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp being used as an example. The specific living conditions and behaviour of children are presented on the basis of individual stories. The support measures for surviving children after liberation and their often lifelong confrontation with what they experienced are further focal points.

We offer an accompanying programme to the exhibition. This provides information about the history of children and young people in the Neuengamme concentration camp and its satellite camps, as well as children who were deported from Hamburg to ghettos and concentration camps.
