This September, three new volunteers joined the Foundation. During their voluntary service, Casey and Tasya (Action Reconciliation Service for Peace) as well as Robert (Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr Kultur) will get to know the Foundation and the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial. On September 26, 2023, the Jewish Girls’ School Memorial and Educational Site in cooperation with the Research Centre for Contemporary History in Hamburg and the Foundation of Hamburg Memorials and Learning Centres invited guests to the Jewish Cultural House on Flora-Neumann-Strasse. Titled, "Meeting Erika," the event was held to commemorate the 100-year-old contemporary witness Erika Estis née Freundlich, who passed away on January 14, 2023. Read more

In mid-September, the denk.mal Hannoverscher Bahnhof team welcomed Barbara Maass from Montréal to the memorial site in HafenCity. She is the granddaughter of Adolf and Käthe Maass, who were both deported from Hamburg to Theresienstadt in July 1942 and murdered in Auschwitz in 1944. Read more

On May 14, 1948, the State of Israel was founded - only three years after the Shoah. As part of the anniversary celebrations, members of the Greens Party in the Bundestag planted 75 trees in their respective constituencies in a joint action with the Embassy of Israel to express the rootedness of both countries. One of the trees was planted at the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial. Read more

Registration is open: Relatives of victims of Nazi persecution, descendants of Nazi perpetrators, people interested in the culture of remembrance and memorial staff are cordially invited to our two-day “Future of Remembrance” Forum at the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial to exchange ideas and network on future issues of remembrance culture.
