International Workcamp

From 13 to 27 August, the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial, the Friends of the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial, and the Service Civil International (SCI) hosted an international work camp on the Memorial grounds. For two weeks, approximately 20 women and men between 17 and 62 years of age from Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Russia, Serbia, the Basque Country, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, and Germany lived at the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial. Remembering Those Deported from the Train Station Hannoversche Bahnhof

The inauguration of the new park Lohsepark in the Hafencity district of Hamburg was celebrated on the weekend of 9–10 July 2016. The opening was celebrated with a variety of events, and the so-called Fault Line (Fuge), which is part of the memorial denk.mal Hannoverscher Bahnhof, was accessible to visitors for the first time. This walled walkway is a symbol of the deportation of 7,692 Jews, Sinti and Roma during the Second World War. Read more

Future Cooperation Between the Memorial and its Russian Partners

The Deputy Director of the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial, Dr. Oliver von Wrochem, has recently met with Dr. Sandra Dahlke, the Deputy Director of the German Historical Institute in Moscow and Dr. Natalia Timofeeva, the Director of the Regional Center for Oral History (Региональный центр устной истории в г. Воронеж) at the Voronezh Institute of High Technologies in Russia, where they agreed on closer cooperation in the future. Read more

Guided audio tour

The Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial has recently released a guided audio tour in English, in conjunction with its German and Russian versions. The guided audio tour leads visitors through 12 stations located throughout the Memorial and former concentration camp site, through use of audio, text, and pictures on your own smartphone. Two New Research Projects at the Centre for Historical Studies

In March of this year, we welcomed Dr Susann Lewerenz and Dr Claudia Bade to our team at the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial, where they are working on externally funded research projects. Dr Lewerenz is researching the forms, functions and effects of racism in colonialism and National Socialism, while Dr Bade's research project concerns military justice in the city during the war, with a focus on verdicts, sentences and people involved in the courts of the replacement training army in Hamburg and Northern Germany from 1939 to 1945.
