The Amicale Internationale KZ Neuengamme (AIN) elected a new board of directors on November 16, 2019. The AIN is an umbrella organization which represents national associations of former prisoners of the Neuengamme concentration camp as well as their relatives and friends. The new president is Martine Letterie from the Netherlands. Read more

The inclusive workshop “Hamburg-Theresienstadt” took place from July 7 through July 12, 2019 with young people with and without disability. The German-Czech inclusive workshop is one of many international workshops initiated and conducted by the Hannoverscher Bahnhof Memorial. The participants worked on different products for the upcoming exhibition of the Hannoverscher Bahnhof Memorial documentation center. They drew on the youth projects from previous years. Read more

Daniel Fröhlich donated personal belongings of Ferdinand von Reichel, a former prisoner, to the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial. During a visit to the memorial, the history teacher from Ilmenau spotted his great-granduncle’s wedding ring and WW1 Iron Cross in the Memorial’s main exhibition. Read more

This year has truly flown by. So much has happened this past year in a blink of an eye. At the start of spring, my fellow volunteer Daria and I cajoled the groundskeeper of Neuengamme to provide us with bikes, and since then I’ve discovered a beautiful bike route that leads straight from our Bergedorf apartment to the memorial site along a paved, former train track, dotted with meadows and grazing cows. These 22 minute rides have become some of the most precious moments of my day, infusing me with energy for the work ahead. Read more

Last Saturday commenced the yearly “Workcamp” of the Service Civil International in the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial. The concept began in the 1980s for participants from around the world to come to the memorial for two weeks and live on-site, create contacts, learn, converse over history and remembrance culture, and assist the memorial. This year’s summer camp was themed “Preparing an Exhibition.” Read more
