The library is a public reference library focusing on Neuengamme concentration camp and its satellite camps, other concentration camps, resistance and persecution in northern Germany, memorial work and coming to terms with the past.  Its systematically arranged inventory now comprises 15,000 books and 80 current periodicals. There are 10 reading desks available, one of which has Internet access.

Users can search the collection via a digital catalog.

The library is open every weekday:

Monday to Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and by arrangement over the phone.
