Guided Tours and Projects

Guided tours of the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial focus on the history of the site as a concentration camp and memorial. Special emphasis is put on the personal experiences of prisoners.

Project

The three-hour Project is the basic programme for groups visiting the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial. A Project includes a thematic introduction and a tour of different sites of the Memorial grounds. In addition to the main exhibition and the former prisoners’ barracks, other parts of the grounds – the brick factory, the branch canal and the commandant’s house – as well as the International Monument and the House of Remembrance can also be explored. Based on the group’s interests, the main focus of the Project can be either on the main exhibition or the grounds.

Duration: 3 hours
Fee: €50 per group (foreign language)
Number of participants: Up to 25 pupils (we recommend dividing larger school classes into two groups)

Project Plus

Project Plus is a 4-hour-long programme that allows visitors to explore the site in more detail and to do their own research on certain topics. In addition to the main exhibition and the former prisoners’ barracks, other sites on the grounds – the branch canal, brick factory, clay pits or commandant’s house – can be explored, or another exhibition can be included, depending on the group’s interests. Project Plus allows school classes to engage with the history of the site in more depth. We also recommend this programme for groups who need more time to work on certain topics, or who have many questions that they would like to discuss during their visit. Project Plus includes interactive elements that enable pupils to explore the exhibition on their own with the help of worksheets that can be discussed later in the group, or by using pictures or doing other activities in smaller groups.

Duration: 4 hours
Fee: €55 per group (foreign language)
Number of participants: Up to 25 pupils (we recommend dividing larger school classes into two groups)

Guided Tour of the Grounds and Main Exhibition

During our two-hour guided tour, groups visit two main sites on the grounds of the former concentration camp – we suggest the extensive main exhibition and the former prisoners’ barracks near the main entrance.
We also offer two-hour guided tours at each of the three branches of the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial in Hamburg: Bullenhuser Damm Memorial, Poppenbüttel Prefabricated Building Memorial and the Fuhlsbüttel Concentration Camp and Penal Facility 1933–1945 Memorial.

Duration: 2 hours
Fee: €45 per group (foreign language)
Number of participants: Up to 25 pupils (we recommend dividing larger school classes into two groups)
